MUS 101 - Introduction to Music Course unit(s): 1 Meets GAR: Meets general academic requirement AR. In this course, students will develop the listening skills and musical vocabulary that will equip them to think, and write, about music from analytical and critical perspectives. Students will explore topics such as musical form, improvisation, and the intersection of music with race, gender, and culture. A diverse listening repertoire for this course will be drawn from the folk, popular, and art music traditions of Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe. No musical background is needed. May not be counted towards the music major or minor.
