Spanish Minor

A minor in Spanish consists of six courses beyond SPN 204 Intermediate Spanish II , including:

Note

Heritage speakers of Spanish –students raised in a home where Spanish was spoken but who may have had little or no formal training in Spanish—are an important part of our learning community. We have a specially designed sequence of language courses for heritage speakers and provide opportunities in upper-level, community-engaged classes that leverage the intercultural and communicative gifts they bring.

We encourage our minors to study abroad in a Spanish-speaking country; through advising, courses taken abroad are pre-approved for inclusion in the program.  Students must maintain at least a 2.00 grade point average in all courses required for the minor.  The Advanced Conversation & Composition course (304) fulfills the College’s writing intensive requirement.

The Spanish minor program explores the language, cultures, and literatures of the Spanish-speaking world; language is very much central to our program. We also encourage our students to broaden their experience in Hispanic, Latin American, Caribbean, and LatinX cultures through courses taught in English in the departments of Art History (ARH), English (ENG), History (HST), Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (LLC), Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LAC), Media and Communication (COM), and Theatre (THR). Courses taught in English do not count towards a Spanish minor, but often provide invaluable insight into the beauty and complexities of the world.
