MUS 351 - Theory & Practice in Western Chromatic Music Course unit(s): 1 Prerequisite(s): MUS 251 Theory & Practice in Western Tonal Music or permission of the isntructor. Focused development of skills and concepts of Western chromatic music including: mode mixture and altered scale degrees, enharmonic practices, chromatic sequences, common-tone chords and modulations, chromatic key relationships, as well as the melodic and rhythmic features of concert music, ragtime, jazz, the blues, and popular music, including super-subdivided beats, asymmetric meters, cross rhythms, and improvisation.
