PSC 258, 259 - Contemporary Protest in the Middle East Course unit(s): 1 Meets GAR: Meets general academic requirements SL and DE (and W when offered as 259) and is a linked (IL) course. This course applies theoretical frameworks drawn from sociology, political science, and the study of social movements to analyze several recent instances of contentious politics in the Middle East and North Africa. In particular, students will analyze the protests over the contested Iranian presidential elections in 2009, the Arab Spring protests in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, and Syria, as well as several important moments of contention in Turkey, including the Gezi Park protests, as well as Kurdish protests calling for Turkish intervention in Syria.
