ENG 313, 314 - Medieval Literature Course unit(s): 1 Meets GAR: Meets general academic requirement W when offered as 314. A broad-based study of the literature of the European Middle Ages. Readings will include selections from the romances of Chretien de Troyes, the lais of Marie de France, Dante’s Inferno, Boccaccio’s Decameron, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and a representative sampling of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales that highlights Chaucer’s transformation of romance conventions in the context of emerging bourgeois and mercantile social values.
