PHL 325, 326 - Nineteenth and Twentieth Century European Philosophy Course unit(s): 1 Meets GAR: Meets general academic requirement W when offered as 326. Prerequisite(s): Any previous course in philosophy. European philosophical thought during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. A study of some significant issues and projects- such as the developments of Marxism, existentialism, and critical social theory- in the wake of Kant’s ‘critical’ philosophy and in a society increasingly shaped by scientific and industrial development. Readings will include selections by Marx, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, and Freud.
