BIO 118 - Concepts of Biology: Genes, Genomes, & Society1 course unit Students will consider the impact of genetic information on both individuals and various aspects of society with a particular focus on human health and disease. The course begins with an introduction to human genetics which will serve as background for discussion of aspects of the human condition that have a genetic basis as well as uses of genome sequence information. In addition to learning the underlying biology, discussions will include related societal, ethical, and policy topics. Prerequisite(s): Students who have taken BIO 150 , BIO 151 , or BIO 152 need permission of the instructor to enroll. Meets general academic requirement SC.
