HST 249, 250 - From Cold War to Unification: Europe 1945-Present1 course unit After World War II, Europe emerged a divided continent, a series of weak states allied to two rival superpowers. The course examines the political and ideological struggle that divided Europe and the social and economic forces at work beneath the surface that brought Europeans together in the wake of the Second World War. Drawing heavily on the use of European cinema, students will pay particular attention to the development of European culture and the cultural construction of social experience. Meets general academic requirement HU (and W when offered as 250).
