HST 247 - Civil War, Holocaust, Crisis: Europe 1900-19451 course unit Though the twentieth century began with great promise for a peaceful and prosperous future for more and more Europeans, its first fifty years were instead decades of tragedy and slaughter: an era dominated by two world wars and the Holocaust. The course will examine the political, social, economic, intellectual, and cultural history of Europe from 1900-1945. Students will pay particular attention to the great conflict of ideas (Communism, Fascism, Democracy, Capitalism) that created what many Europeans consider to be a European-wide civil war stretching across the period. Meets general academic requirement HU.
