ENG 375 - Postcolonial Literature1 course unit A study of English language literatures in former British colonies - in Africa, the Caribbean, Australia, and the Indian subcontinent and its Diaspora - and of literature in translation from former French colonies in Africa and the Caribbean, focusing on the work of such writers as Assia Djebar, V. S. Naipaul, J. M. Coetzee, Nadine Gordimer, Salman Rushdie, Arundhati Roy, Ben Okri, and Wole Soyinka, among others. The course is variously taught as a survey of these literatures or as a more concentrated study of the literature of one or two nations or regions. Alternate years. Meets departmental Transformations approach. Meets general academic requirement DE.
