1 course unit Students learn how to prepare specimens for scanning electron microscopy; instruction includes fixation procedures, critical point drying, sputter coating, and operation of the microscope. Students design and complete an independent research project, analyze and discuss scientific literature, and learn how to write a scientific paper. Three class hours plus three laboratory hours per week. Prerequisite(s): BIO 152 Principles of Biology III: Molecules & Cells and any two biology courses from Area 1, 2, or 3.
