Statistics, leading to a B.S. degree
|
|
A major in statistics must complete twelve courses as outlined below:
|
Mathematical Foundations (4)
Computer Science Course (1)
Statistical Foundations (4)
Note:
The student must maintain a 2.00 grade point average in courses required for the major. A student cannot simultaneously be declared as both a mathematics minor and a statistics major. Statistics Placement
If a Statistics major places into and earns course credit for MTH 122 Calculus II without taking MTH 121 Calculus I, then the major requirement for MTH 121 Calculus I is waived. However, the student will not get a course unit for MTH 121 Calculus I unless the student transfers an equivalent course from another institution to Muhlenberg. If a Statistics major places into and earns course credit for MTH 223 Calculus III without taking MTH 122 Calculus II or MTH 121 Calculus I, then the major requirements for MTH 122 Calculus II and MTH 121 Calculus I are waived. However, the student will not get a course unit for MTH 122 Calculus II unless the student transfers an equivalent course from another institution to Muhlenberg and similarly the student will not get a course unit for MTH 121 Calculus I unless the student transfers an equivalent course from another institution to Muhlenberg. Placement into an advanced course does NOT confer any course unit credit for prerequisite courses to that advanced course. Mathematics and Statistics Double Major Requirements
As there is significant overlap between the mathematics and statistics majors, we ask that students who wish to major in both mathematics and statistics to take some additional courses. The courses that a student must take to complete a double major in mathematics and statistics are listed below: Statistics Core Courses (4):
Mathematics Core Courses (2):
Statistics Electives (2):
Any two of the following: Mathematics Electives (2):
Mathematics or Statistics Elective (1): Note: no course can double-count as one of the statistics or mathematics electives for the mathematics and statistics majors. |
