1 course unit This course is intended to provide students with the essential methods for the analysis of political phenomena. Students receive an overview of the principles of research design as well as an introduction to the fundamental techniques involved in the quantitative and qualitative analysis of data. Specific aspects include quasi-experimental design, hypothesis testing, measurement, and ethical considerations in the research process. The goal is to provide students with the training to be competent consumers of empirical analyses as well as to give them a foundation for the study of advanced quantitative research techniques. Prerequisite(s): PSC 101 Introduction to American National Government; IST 101 Introduction to International Studies or PSC 103 Introduction to Comparative Politics & International Relations. MTH 119 Statistical Analysis is recommended.
