1 course unit The basic principles of quantum mechanics and their applications to problems of chemical interest are discussed. Topics include atomic and molecular structure, chemical bonding, and molecular spectroscopy. In addition, the fundamentals of chemical kinetics, reaction rate theories, and reaction mechanisms are investigated. Three hours of lecture and one three hour laboratory per week. Prerequisite(s): CHM 202 Organic Chemistry II or CHM 204, 206 Organic Chemistry IIA and MTH 122 Calculus II.
