MUS 335 - Techniques of the Avant Garde1 course unit A study of the compositional techniques and styles of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Exploration of recent pitch languages and music in which aspects other than pitch become central features. Influence of technology, rock styles, and other issues will be discussed. Score study, analysis, and written exercises leading to compositional projects in a variety of styles. Reading and listening assignments; semester project. Prerequisite(s): MUS 211 Music Theory III .
