PHY 113 - Cosmology: The Scientific Exploration of the Universe1 course unit We are continually seeking the answers to the age-old questions about the origin, age, composition, structure, and ultimate fate of the universe. Just as the cosmos is changing, our views of the cosmos are changing as new observations and interpretations emerge. This course will examine the generally accepted cosmological models and the personalities responsible for these models from the time of the ancient Greeks up to the present. Each will be examined in light of the observational data available at the time. Primary emphasis will be given to understanding the most current observations about the universe and the prevailing inflationary Big Bang model of the universe. Offered as a course designed for Muhlenberg Scholars. Meets general academic requirement SC.
