NSC 308, 309 - Embodied Cognition

Prerequisite or corequisite:  NSC 300 Brain & Behavior , or PSY 217, 218 Cognitive Processes  (may be concurrently enrolled), or permission of instructor.
Explores an increasingly influential and popular research program in cognitive science in which brain function is investigated in the context of bodily interactions with the material, social, and cultural environment. Class discussions integrate research from neurophysiology, ethology, ecological psychology, computational theory of mind, philosophy of science, phenomenology, cybernetics, and dynamical systems theory. The course also includes experiential and experimental investigations and demonstrations of the embodied and situated nature of cognition.
