DNC 145 - Hip Hop Cultures: Comprehending

Hip Hop Dance Culture is the introduction to the movement and culture of Hip-hop studies. Students will learn movement from the many different genres that have formulated the growth of Hip-hop culture. Students will learn historical information that is explored by the vocabulary of the movements and its generation. Students will learn skills and techniques that are required of performing these genres of movement. From Swing, and Lindy Hop to the Charleston students will learn historical descriptions and related events will also educate students on the historical significance of this movement and how the historical cultures influenced these dances and their evolution. Coursework will also integrate readings, written/video recording assignments, dance viewing and performance, class discussions, assessments, and critical analysis to further enhance students’ understanding and experience of Hip Hop through a historical framework and social/cultural context.
