Course unit(s):1 Meets GAR (students beginning prior to Fall 2024): Meets general academic requirement DE and HU. The Tokugawa period, the Meiji Restoration, Japan’s emergence as a major power in East Asia, World War II, and Japan’s postwar transformation will be examined through lectures, readings, and discussion.
