FLM 201 - Film History I: 1895-1950 Course unit(s): 1 Meets GAR (students beginning prior to Fall 2024): Meets general academic requirement HU. Meets Explore Core requirement (students beginning Fall 2024 and later): HS An exploration of the international history of film from its invention through the silent era, the rise of Hollywood, and the development of sound to 1950. The course focuses on major directors, technological developments, and the surrounding social, cultural, and commercial contexts from which film emerged. Screenings will include works from Hollywood, international cinema, documentary, and the avant-garde. Attendance at weekly screenings is required.
