ENG 349, 350 - Modern American Fiction Course unit(s): 1 Meets requirement: W when offered as 350 A study of representative fiction published in the United States between the World Wars, including works by Willa Cather, Sherwood Anderson, Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Richard Wright, William Faulkner, Zora Neale Hurston, and William Attaway. Contextual questions will focus on legends of “the Lost Generation,” the Depression-era radicalization of cultural production, the impact of immigration and Nativism, and relations between European and American modernisms in various arts. Satisfies departmental Prose requirement.
