ARH 101 - Art Histories: An Introduction Course unit(s): 1 Meets GAR (students beginning prior to Fall 2024): Meets general academic requirement HU. Meets Explore Core requirement (students beginning Fall 2024 and later): HS This lecture course introduces students to art history as a global and interdisciplinary field. Students will develop the skills and vocabulary of formal and contextual analysis to think and write about art from critical and analytical perspectives. The course will be organized around three key themes, organized roughly chronologically: Global Ancient Art, Empire Building & Image Making, and Experimentation & the Negotiation of Traditions. Particular attention will be paid to examining art history as a discipline and developing skills to look critically at works of art from various world cultures and their contextual interpretations.
