Major Requirements

French or Spanish

To declare a major in French or Spanish a student must have a grade point average of at least 2.00 in the intermediate language courses, FRN 203 - Intermediate French I and FRN 204 - Intermediate French II or SPN 203 - Intermediate Spanish I and SPN 204 - Intermediate Spanish II , or demonstrate an equivalent mastery of the language.

Majors complete nine courses beyond the Intermediate II course, including:

FRN 301 - French Conversation & Composition 1 course unit or
SPN 301 - Spanish Conversation & Composition 1 course unit
FRN 304 - Advanced French Conversation & Composition 1 course unit or
SPN 304 - Advanced Spanish Conversation & Composition 1 course unit
At least 4 courses in literature
One CUE: Senior Capstone Seminar (Spanish majors ONLY)
French CUE to be determined

Note:

All majors must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.00 in all courses required in the department. The Advanced Conversation & Composition course (304) fulfills the College’s writing intensive course requirement for all majors but German.

German

Students interested in German have three options: a major in German Language and Literature, as described below, or a major or minor in German Studies. Students majoring in German Language and Literature must successfully complete GRM 204 - Intermediate German II and any previous language courses with a grade point average of at least 2.00 or demonstrate an equivalent command of the language.

Majors complete nine courses beyond GRM 204 - Intermediate German II , including:

GRM 220, 221 - German Civilization 1 course unit
GRM 301 - German Conversation & Composition 1 course unit
GRM 303 - Advanced German Conversation & Composition 1 course unit
GRM 316, 317 - German Cinema 1 course unit
GRM 353 - German Literature in Translation II 1 course unit
GRM 400 - Introduction to German Literature 1 course unit
Two additional courses from the program offerings
German CUE to be determined

One of the German genre courses:

GRM 412 - German Prose 1 course unit or
GRM 413 - German Drama 1 course unit or
GRM 414 - German Lyric Poetry 1 course unit

Note:

All majors in German Language and Literature must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.00 in all courses attempted in the major. Normally, GRM 220, 221 German Civilization will fulfill the College’s writing intensive course requirement in the major.

Russian Studies

Students majoring in Russian Studies must successfully complete RUS 204 - Intermediate Russian II and any previous language course with a grade point average of at least 2.00 or demonstrate an equivalent command of the language, and they must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.00 in all courses required for the major.
