Major Requirements

Students majoring in German Studies must successfully complete GRM 204 - Intermediate German II and any previous language courses with a grade point average of at least 2.00 or demonstrate an equivalent command of the language. All majors must maintain a grade point average of at least 2.00 in all courses required for the major. The CUE for German Studies majors is to be determined.

Majors take nine courses beyond GRM 204 - Intermediate German II , including:

GRM 220, 221 - German Civilization 1 course unit *
GRM 301 - German Conversation & Composition 1 course unit or
GRM 303 - Advanced German Conversation & Composition 1 course unit
GRM 316, 317 - German Cinema 1 course unit
GRM 351 - German Literature in Translation I 1 course unit * or
GRM 400 - Introduction to German Literature 1 course unit
GRM 353 - German Literature in Translation II 1 course unit *

Four additional courses selected from:

GRM 255, 256 - Berlin in Film 1 course unit
GRM 310 - Business German 1 course unit
GRM 313 - German Drama in Translation 1 course unit
GRM 412 - German Prose 1 course unit
GRM 413 - German Drama 1 course unit
GRM 414 - German Lyric Poetry 1 course unit
HST 217 - Revolution & the Birth of Modern Europe (c. 1787-1919) 1 course unit
MUS 219 - Opera 1 course unit
PSC 230, 231 - Government & Politics of Europe 1 course unit

Note:

* Course will contain an additional language component for students pursuing a degree in German Language and Literature. Those students will meet with the instructor for an additional session per week when the subject matter will be discussed in German.
