PHL 254 - Caribbean Philosophy1 course unit This course will introduce students to the rich tradition of philosophical ideas in the Caribbean. In particular, students will explore normative, metaphysical, and political questions that are unique to this geography due to twin effects of colonialism and modernity. This includes examining to varying degrees chattel slavery, revolutions, hurricanes, earthquakes, dictatorships, tourism and military occupation. Readings will include works by Édouard Glissant, Sylvia Wynter, Paget Henry, Jamaica Kincaid, and Franz Fanon. Meets general academic requirement HU and DE.
