PHL 251 - Philosophies of China1 course unit In this class we shall explore the most foundational philosophical systems and concepts of early China. We shall concentrate on the early period of Chinese philosophy, the Zhou dynasty, which gave birth to some of the most influential philosophical movements in the world. This includes the political, ethical, and psychological ideas of Confucius, his grandson Zi Sizi, and of his followers Meng Zi and Xun Zi, the cosmologically oriented Daoist texts, Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, and other philosophical schools, including the Mohists and the Legalists. Meets general academic requirements HU and DE.
