PSC 223 - Political Organization & Democratic Voice: Parties, Interest Groups, & Citizens in U.S. Politics1 course unit This course examines the bonds between citizens, political elites, and political institutions in the United States with an eye toward examining opportunities for political voice in American democracy. Topics include the emergence, evolution, and impact of American political parties and interest groups; the distribution of political voice across the American citizenry; the effectiveness of political participation (both electoral and non-electoral) in shaping political outcomes; and the relationships between political organization, citizenship, and democratic accountability.
